OpenStack Days - East 2016

Verizon Wireless is using OpenStack as the basis for the Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP).  OpenStack is helping bring features to customers faster, allowing the business to be more responsive to internal requests for services and to deliver innovative solutions to enterprise customers.  Workloads extend far beyond Infrastructure as a Service to also include networking products, databases, data-stores, hosted applications and more.    VCP services are delivered by a federated group of datacenters and OpenStack regions distributed globally.
The management and usability requirements for a private cloud of this scope are complex.  Stakeholders for this project include all lines of business, internal and external developers, and external customers as well.  Each of the stakeholders are interested in varying metrics but all require accurate reporting to track service delivery progress.  This is achieved by leveraging Talligent technology to provide cost, chargeback/show-back, consumption, and available capacity detail in a single pane of glass.

Verizon and Talligent will share lessons learned from deploying and operating the first phase of the Verizon Cloud Platform - an OpenStack cloud.

Takeaways:
As OpenStack evolves from serving the development community into hosting production workloads, management reporting and planning requirements have to evolve as well. OpenStack is a journey and this talk will focus on management lessons learned and best practices from a production OpenStack deployment at scale.
